- Dominic E. ‘Butch’ Gaetano, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on October 18, 2022 at Buffalo General Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Benjamin N. and Florence M. (Sirianni) Gaetano.
Butch was raised in Niagara Falls and graduated from Trott Vocational. He later attended SUNY Cortland, where he played football, graduated from Buffalo State University, and earned a Master’s Degree from Niagara University. He proudly served in the United States Army in Vietnam as a Helicopter Radio Control Operator during the Tet Offensive from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1968. In 1972, he married Joan M. (Dwyer) Gaetano.
Dominic was employed for 31 years with the Niagara Falls Board of Education, as a Special Education Teacher, retiring in 2001. Butch was a member of the Niagara Falls and New York State United Teachers Unions, as was a member of LaSalle Yacht Club. Butch enjoyed golfing and bowling, and was an avid Buffalo Bills and Penn State Football Fan. More than anything, he loved taking care of his family, and especially cherished attending his granddaughters’ music and sporting events.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Dominic is survived by his children, Noelle J. (Rick Rees) Gaetano and Dominic J. Gaetano; his granddaughters, Allison and Emily; his sister, Patricia (William) LaChance, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
