- Leslie Nickerson

Leslie Nickerson, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. He was 94. He was born in Niagara Falls on May 22, 1928, the son of the late Thomas and Joyce (Howard) Nickerson. Leslie attended schools in Wilson, New York where he was a Golden Gloves boxer, and football playing quarterback for the Wilson Huskies football team. He worked his family Dairy farm on Dickersonville Road, Ransomeville NY before moving to Niagara Falls.
He married Ruth Rung on September 6, 1952 and they remained happily married for 58 years until her passing in 2010. Leslie served his country proudly in the United States Coast Guard and worked as a pressman for Moore Business Forms for 11 years and then drove truck for Wagner Trucking and Cerrone Trucking before taking a job as head custodian and bus driver with the Headstart Program in Tonawanda, New York, a job that he truly loved.
Mr. Nickerson was an active member of the Local 4H until he was 16, was once a horse jockey at the county fair every year, and did trick riding and roping on his beloved horse “Sunday”. He also played semi-pro football for two years, was a skilled carpenter, mechanic and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He was a jack of all trades, a man who loved to joke around and he loved children and all animals and his greatest joy was his time with his family and make everyone smile no matter what. He was a free spirit and wild at heart. He was a member of Bacon Memorial United Presbyteran church for many years, and served as the church youth leader. He also always said “Im closer to God in the woods then anywhere else.”
He is survived by two children: Jeanmarie (Joseph) Benjella and Paul Nickerson, Sr. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Sara Benjella, Paul (Naomi) Nickerson, Jr. and Aaron (Leanna) Benjella and four great-grandchildren: Hannah Benjella, Liam Conti and Stephen and Samuel Benjella. He was predeceased by his loving wife Ruth (Rung) Nickerson, his granddaughter Christine Nickerson (2022) and two siblings:Stanley (late Betty) Nickerson and Joan (late Harold) Johnson.
Friends may call at the Lane Funeral Home, Inc. (716) 283-9660), 8622 Buffalo Avenue Wednesday December 7, 2022 from 11:00am -1:00pm. Burial will be alongside his cherished wife in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston.
