- Mary C. (Garlitz) Syruws, age 91 of Bergholz, NY; was called to her heavenly home on August 28, 2023 while at the Elderwood of Wheatfield facility. Born in Howesville, West Virginia on May 25, 1932; daughter of Floyd and Martha (Greaser) Garlitz. Mary was united in marriage to William J. Syruws on December 2, 1949. He was called to his heavenly home on May 25, 2012. Mary was a former member of St. Vincent dePaul Parish - Prince of Peace site, until her health started to decline. She was employed at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, was a New York State Emergency Medical Technician, a certified advanced first aid instructor with the American Red Cross, and served as an active member of Tri-Community Ambulance Service Inc., where she became a life time member for all her years of service. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, embroidery and playing the organ and the accordion.Survivors include seven children, William R. (late Colleen) Syruws, Catherine Bolam, John (Debbie) Syruws, Sandra (Brian) Retzlaff, Susan (Neal) Klettke, David Syruws, and Cheryl (Norman) Stoelting; a sister, Barbara Crow; 19 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.She was also preceded by siblings, Rita (late Donald) Johannes, Joan (Albine) Syrews, Betty Jane Gates, Patricia "Patty" Syrews, and William (Cynthia) Garlitz.Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, 2436 Niagara Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304 (Town of Wheatfield), on Thursday (August 31) from 4-7 p.m. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Randy Kaminska, on Friday (September 1) at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Town of Lewiston, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Niagara Hospice.
