Joseph H. Farrell, longtime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024. He was 91. He was born in Buffalo, New York on January 3, 1933, a son of the late Joseph J. and Anna M. (Rusnak) Farrell. Joseph attended Buffalo Schools and graduated from McKinley Vocational School in 1951 and then attended the State University College at Buffalo where he was a member of the basketball team. After college he began his career with New York Telephone (later AT&T) where he worked as an installer until his retirement in 1986. He married Dorothy “Dottie” Molak in 1956 and they remained happily married for 67 years until Dottie’s passing in 2023.
Joe was devoted to his Catholic Faith and the Rosary (which he prayed every day) and an avid New York Yankees fan but his greatest joy was his time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by 7 children: Patrick (Kris) Farrell of Niagara Falls, Theresa (Don) Max of Buffalo, Suzanne (Michael) Brave of Niagara Falls, Mary Favero-Ritter (Jeffrey) of Youngstown, Joseph (MaryEllen) Farrell of North Tonawanda, Rosanne (Dirk Willson) Farrell of Las Vegas and Timothy (Kristin) Farrell of Arlington, Tennessee.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Anna (Charles) Reese, Jessie (Matt) Paluch, Caroline (Monica) Debus, Sarah Lavin, Jaime (John) Gavin, late Victor (Melissa) Favero, Gary (Caroline) Favero, Alissa Favero, Alex (Hannah) Farrell, Joseph (Jessica) Farrell, Brennan Farrell and Liam Farrell and 11 great-grandchildren: Emma, Taylor, J.J., Julian, Annalise, Allie, Brody, Mila, Trey, Madilynn and Hudson and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he was predeceased by his grandson Victor Favero and two siblings: Marie Utzig of Buffalo and Robert (Rose) Farrell of Tonawanda.
There will be no prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 10 A.M. at St. John de LaSalle Church, 8477 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, New York 14304. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Farrell’s name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, New York 14094. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting LANEFUNERALHOME.COM.
