- Arthur C. Sawyer

Arthur C. Sawyer passed away on November 25th, 2023. He was born in the Village of LaSalle to William J. and Isabel Sawyer (nee Ball). He was predeceased by his wife, Joyce M. Sawyer (nee Hildebrandt). He is survived by his three children, Nancy J. Gee (deceased Richard Gee) of Rochester, NY; Lynne N. and Thomas Curyto of West Chester, P.A. and Kevin A. and Cynthia Sawyer of Niagara Falls, NY.
He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Leanne (Robert) McAllister, Richard (Michelle) Gee, Thomas (Kim) Curyto, Todd (Jen) Curyto, Tara (Jason) Adams, Corey (Charity) Curyto, Aaron (Samantha) Sawyer, Leah (Steven) Schul. Also, 21 great grandchildren, three great grand stepdaughters, and two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Kenneth Sawyer (Joanne) of West Palm Beach Florida, and one sister, Shirley Oldfield (deceased Gordon Oldfield) of Lockport, NY. He was also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Preceding him in death are three sisters; Louise Mayville of Niagara Falls, NY, Dorothy Sawyer of Niagara Falls, NY, Irene McClain of Rochester NY and a brother, William J. Sawyer Jr. of Niagara Falls, NY.
During WWII he enlisted in the United States Navy at age 18. His discharge was November, 1945. The Navy awarded him various medals and a Battle Star during the Philippine Campaign.
For forty years he worked at Mathieson Alkali Works, now known as Olin Corporation, retiring in 1985 as manager of both departments of Traffic and Purchasing. While at Olin he served many years on the M.A.W. Federal Credit Union, retiring as President. He is currently a member of the Lasalle Lodge 132 F. & A.M. and American Legion Post 1465. He was a past member of the Niagara Falls Traffic Club, Buffalo Purchasing Association and Lasalle Sportsmen’s Club.
Art would like to give a special thanks to his two daughters: Nancy Gee and Lynne Curyto and husband, Tom Curyto, his son and wife: Kevin and Cynthia Sawyer, his nephew and wife, Bill and Dianne Mayville and nephews Thomas and Robert Sawyer. Art would also like to thank his neighbors; Ted and Gina Weed Sr., Sam and Mary Brandy, Sean and Rhonda Vekich, Jane Schulz and Frank Hansen.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls on Wednesday, November 29th from 4 to 8 PM where funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation at 8 PM. Burial will be Thursday at 10:30 AM in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery in Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Sawyers name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
