- Josephine ‘Babe’ T. Cerrone, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 8, 2025 at her residence while under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on November 20, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Anna (Mancuso) Demico.
Josephine attended local schools, and her greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a loving friend to many. She was always there for everyone when they needed her most, offering support, guidance, and unconditional love. Her generosity was boundless. Josephine was a blessing to every life she touched and helped to create eternal memories for her family and friends.
On November 18, 1950, she married Americo Vincent Cerrone at St Joseph’s Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Cerrone predeceased her on June 23, 1996 after 45 years of marriage. Josephine was employed by the Niagara Falls City School District as a cafeteria cashier from September 24, 1976, until her retirement on June 30, 2001. In her leisure time, she enjoyed working in her flower garden, cooking, spending time with friends, and her loyal dog Tony. She was a devoted member of St. Raphael’s Church (formally St Theresa’s Church) in Niagara Falls, but above all, she enjoyed the time spent with her extended family.
Josephine is survived by her two children, Vincent (Gina Appoloney) Cerrone of Youngstown, NY and Anthony Cerrone of Niagara Falls, NY. She was pre-deceased by her two sons, Mark (Candice) Cerrone and David Cerrone and her brother, Anthony (Elizabeth) Demico. She is also survived by her niece, Joanne (Dr. Brijendra) Gupta, and her nephew John (Deborah) Demico.
She was a loving grandmother to Michelle Cerrone, Elana Cerrone, Christina (Steve) Pecoraro, Lauren Cerrone, Angela (John) Marcolini, and the late Gina Cerrone Piwowarczyk as well as to several great grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are her aunt, Phyllis Ann (Fred) Baron, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Patricia Scalzo and all of the care givers who treated Josephine like family over the past several years.
Private funeral services and interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY will be held at the convenience of the family. If desired, memorial donations in Josephine’s name can be made to Niagara Hospice Inc., 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org/give).
