Jarvis, Judith A. (nee Abbott)

Judith (nee Abbott) Jarvis passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Ronald H. Jarvis, D.D.S.; her parents Maurice M. Abbott and Isabelle A. (nee McFall) Abbott. Judy was also predeceased by her older brother, Michael M. Abbott PhD (Mary). Surviving family includes two daughters, Jennifer J. Hamberger (Douglas) and Pamela J. Ortolani (Terrence); as well as four grandsons Maxwell D. Hamberger, Christopher H. Hamberger, Parker M. Ortolani and Carson A. Ortolani; a sister, Marilyn J. Wagshul (Alan) and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in Niagara Falls, New York on July 27, 1941, Judy moved with her family to a farm in Youngstown in 1951 where she was an active member of the Niagara County 4-H Club winning the championship for making and modeling clothes for four years running. A gifted seamstress, she made beautiful clothes for herself, her family and her friends. Hand-smocking was a particular skill. She was a 1958 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School where she was a majorette. Judy won the Betty Crocker “Homemaker of Tomorrow” scholarship that same year. She attended Buffalo State Teacher’s College and Niagara University before graduating from Erie County Technical Institute with an Associates degree in dental hygiene in 1962. Following her graduation, she ran the dental health program for Massena Central Schools in upstate New York. During her husband’s service in the US Navy (1962-1965), Judy served as the assistant to Admiral Edward J. O’Donnell at Guantanamo Bay Cuba where they were stationed. Active in the local community, she volunteered at Children’s Hospital and polling sites during major elections. Judy also served on the board of the Ronald McDonald House in the 1980s. More recently she was active with the Lewiston Porter Class of 1958 Scholarship Fund. Flowers are gratefully declined.
