Louise Mary Alaimo, 100, of Charlotte, NC and formally of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away at her residence on June 22, 2024. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Peter and Maria (Sgro) Marra.
Louise attended local schools. After finishing high school at the start of World War II, Louise aided the war effort by working at the Bell Aircraft in Niagara Falls. While there she assembled the overhead cockpit domes for fighter planes. After the war, Louise married her beloved husband, Alfonso P. Alaimo, on December 15, 1945 in St. Joseph’s Church. Married 57 years, Mr. Alaimo predeceased her on June 26, 2002.
After her marriage Louise became a full-time homemaker. They resided in the area before leaving the city in 1954. The family moved 5 times in 9 years for Alfonso’s job. Settling in Rochester NY where they lived for 33 years. Once retired Louise and Alfonso split their time between Rochester and West Palm Beach FL, loving the Florida winters. She spent a short time in California before settling in Charlotte to be near family. During the young couple’s time in Niagara Falls they owned a jewelry store. Louise enjoyed working in jewelry stores for most of her time living in Rochester. She took pride in making their house a home.
Mrs. Alaimo is survived by her daughter Joanna (David) Mechler; her grandchildren Erick (Marta) Mechler, Suzanne (Paul) Halberta, Lisa Marie (Miles) Mechler, Todd Ingram, and; her great-grandchildren, Liam, Peter, Robbie, Maja and Aspen as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Alaimo was sadly predeceased by daughter Carol Ann (Robert) Ingram, and her siblings Carmen (late Mary) Marra, Dr. Peter (late Sarah) Marra, Anna Marie Borgese (late Ken), Joseph “Lefty” (late Rose) Marra and Angelo (late Iona) Marra.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 14 from 2 – 5 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304. Louise’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 15 at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301. Everyone please assemble at church. Entombment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Foundation by going to www.heart.org. Arrangements by M.J.
