- Cheryl B. Gatto, 79, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side on October 15, 2024 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Bradford, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Valda (Fellows) Johns.
Cher, as she was affectionately known by many, was a graduate of LaSalle Senior High School in 1963 and attended Cheryl Fells School of Business. She was employed at Bell Aerospace and Hooker Chemical. Most recently, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Niagara County Health Department in Niagara Falls, NY until her retirement in 2007. On January 1, 1990, she married James A. Gatto in Niagara Falls. Mr. Gatto predeceased her on October 30, 2008 after 18 years of marriage.
Cheryl was a member of the Moose Lodge and the 3-F Club, both in Lewiston, NY. She loved her home and taking care of her yard, and enjoyed spending summers at Cuddy’s Pine Cove in North Frontenac, ON, Canada with family and friends. A thoughtful and kind friend and confidant to many, Cher loved to socialize and be around others. She especially enjoyed playing cards with her daughter, granddaughters, and beloved friend, Linda Hardison.
Cheryl is survived by her beloved daughter, Cynthia (Patrick) Walker-Whitehead, and her sons, Anthony (Peggy) Gatto, Judge Sam (Judy) Gatto, and James (Kelly) Gatto; her grandchildren, Breanna Whitehead, Gabrielle Whitehead, Nicole (Mark) Gatto-Stefanski, Gina (Sheldon) Bivins, Anthony (Tara) Gatto, Adria Gatto, Jackie Gatto, Sara Jane (Jack) Royal, Leah Gatto, James (Noelle) Gatto, and Cory Gatto; several great-grandchildren; her brother, William (Diane) Johns, her nephew, William (Melissa) Johns, and niece, Kathryn (Tim) Egly, as well as several lifelong friends, including Darlene Baker and Rita Donovan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20 from 2 – 5 PM M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304 where funeral services will be held at 5PM.
