- Thomas E. Harris, 86, of Lydonville, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, September 4, 2003. Born on June 9, 1917, in Tonawanda, NY, he was the son of the late James and Lydia (Redick) Harris.
Mr. Harris grew up in Tonawanda and was schooled until the 8th grade, having to leave to go to work and help sup port his family. He enrolled in the C.C.C. Job Corp. and on completion, he was employed with Hershall Carousel CO. of Tonawanda. In 1938, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in the Panama Canal for three years. In 1942, during WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, having served in Central Europe and Northern France as a tail gunner for B-17's. His bombardment Division received a Presidential Citation for Extraordinary Heroism.
On returning home, he was employed with the former Dreyfus Welding Co. on Fruit Ave. in Medina and lastly worked for Von Dugen Welding Co. of Lockport for 32 years, while also being self employed welder for the Medi na area. He was a member of Lockport Odd Fellows. He is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Gary) Wakefield of Lyndonville, NY. A son, Dean (Michelle) Harris of Albion, NY. A grandson, Eric (Michele) Harling and two great granddaughters, Alexandria and Jessica Paige Harling, all of Lydonville. A sister Arlene Searls of Onalaska, TX. A brother, Harold Harris of Delevan, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Monica Stinson Harris. Relatives and friends may attend a grave site service on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Bates Rd. Cemetery, Medina. The Rev. James Maxwell will officiate. Military Honors will also be accorded. Memorials may be made in his name to: Hospice of Orleans Co. P.O. Box 489 Albion, NY 14411. Arrangements where made through the Bates-Tuttle Funeral Home, Medina.
