- James Rivers Life story
James M. Rivers, 82, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed from this life on November 30, 2024. Born on July 2, 1942 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late William J. and Alice (Kane) Rivers.
Jim spent the majority of his life in Niagara Falls, NY, however, spent 10 years in Maine. He graduated from the former Bishop Duffy High School. Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force, during the Vietnam War, from February 24, 1961 until his honorable discharge on February 23, 1965. He was employed as a Chemical Operator, working for Occidental Chemical Corporation. While in Maine, he worked as Director of Passenger Service for the Bangor International Airport. Jim was a lifelong Roman Catholic, an active member of the American Legion Post #1142, avid golfer, loved music and was a great dancer.
Jim is survived by daughters, Laurel (Darin) Brydges, Alison (Shawn Wignall) Rivers and Adrienne (Anthony) Perno; grandchildren, Courtney (James) Schreiber, Jenna (Sean Li) Brydges, Michael Brydges, Simon Brydges, Mason Wignall, Miles Wignall, Jamie Perno, Lyla Perno and Audrey Perno; great-grandchildren, James and Lorelei; siblings, Martin (Judie) Rivers, Marjorie (late Michael) Breed and Daniel (Rita) Rivers and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, William Rivers, David Rivers and Timothy Rivers.
All are welcome to gather for visitation on Friday, December 6th, from 2-5:30 p.m. at the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME AND NIAGARA COUNTY CREMATION CARE, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (716-297-9007), where Jim’s funeral service, concluding with Military Honors, will be held at 5:30 p.m., with Rev. Stewart Lindsay, O.S.F.S. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings in honor of James Rivers, may be made to the American Legion Post #1142, 8643 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
