- Nicholas Metro Jr., 78, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family while under the care of Niagara Hospice at his home. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Lilla 'Lily' (DiRuscio) Metro.
Nick was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and obtained his HVAC and Advanced Electrical Certifications. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for 6 years prior to his honorable discharge.
On August 30, 1973, he married Katherine E. (Feder) Metro in Lewiston. They shared 37 wonderful years together until her passing on February 6, 2010.
Growing up Nick spent many years working at the Como Restaurant on Pine Avenue, to which he fondly shared so many great stories of adventures and experiences with his family over the years.
A dedicated member of the IBEW Local 237, Nick was employed by Ferguson Electric for many years. Throughout his life Nick always had a passion for cars, spending many hours building and fixing them. He was always known to be tinkering or creatively fixing things, which for many he was the first call when something was not working. His passions spilled into various business ventures along with his longtime friend Jim Wagner, including Leon's Tavern, Frontier Towing, and Nick's Refrigeration. Through these ventures Nick provided service and assisted so many family, friends and local businesses throughout the years.
He was an avid bowler and was known as the caretaker of the family, always putting others before himself. Nick's legacy of love, dedication, and care will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. His warm heart and selfless nature left a lasting impact on his family and friends.
Nick is survived by his three children, Wendy (Michael) Mayflower, James (Te'a) Metro, and Jennifer Metro, and was sadly predeceased by his son, Nicholas Metro III. He is also survived by his grandchildren, James, Hayley (Logan), Alec, Luke, Alissa (Dan), Haley, Dominic, Miranda, and Katherine; four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Richard Metro and Delores A. Hazelton; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition, Nick was predeceased by his beloved brother, Robert Metro.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 13 from 3 – 7 PM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304, where funeral services will begin Saturday, December 14 at 9:15 AM, followed by Nick’s Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Military honors and interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094 or niagarahospice.org.
