- Marjorie L. (Higgs) Maggard

Marjorie L. (Higgs) Maggard, longtime area resident, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025. She was 85. She was born in Rhinebeck, New York on September 23, 1939, a daughter of John A. and Marjorie E. (Traver) Higgs. Her family moved to Youngstown when Marjorie was a child. She attended local schools and graduated from Trott Vocational School in 1957 where she majored in chemistry.
Marjorie married Donald K. Maggard, Sr. in 1961 and they remained happily married for 52 years until his passing in 2013. She began her career with Carborundum in 1965 where she worked for many years in numerous capacities including: Chemical Technician, Supervisor, Superintendent and finally Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Management Supervisor. She then worked as a Safety Consultant for Gaines Electric in the Town of Niagara. She continued her education at Georgia University where she obtained an AS in Safety Management and then obtained her bachelors degree in Business from SUNY Empire State College.
She was the Historian for the Town of Lewiston, the Treasurer of the Niagara Falls Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a longtime member of Forestview Church of God. Marjorie was also a Notary Public for the State of New York, a member of the Lewiston Museum Board, the Town of Lewiston Historical Commission and the Western New York Commission and the Niagara County Historical Board. She enjoyed fishing, camping, sewing and researching history but her greatest joy was her time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three children: Joseph L. (Donna) Maggard, Donald K. (Valerie) Maggard, Jr. and Viola (Fred) Zagskorn and 7 grandchildren: Krysta (Wesley) Alexinas, Kara (J) Jaggers, Kyle (Ashley) Maggard, Travis (Kadie) Maggard, Lynette Maggard, Michelle (Molly Fitzpatrick) Maggard and Brett (Mackenzie Panunte) Taylor. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren: Finn, Lyncoln, Kennedy, Cole, Jett, Presley, Lenni, Ryder, Myles, Harlow, Ace and Sutton and her dear friend Maxine “Mac” Shumate. Also survived by siblings, Helen Capasso, Patricia (William) Morlock, Pam Welch and Dexter Sundal. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three siblings: George Higgs, Ernie Higgs and Joseph Nye.
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, New York 14304 on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 3 to 7 P.M. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 10 A.M. at Forestview Church of God, 1250 Saunders Settlement Road, Niagara Falls, New York 14305. Burial will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery in Lewiston.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marjorie’s name to the Forestview Church of God.
