- Ronald C. Stump passed away March 9, 2025 in Niagara Hospice House. Born November 17, 1937 in Lockport he was the son of the late Carlton and Doris (Peters) Stump. Ronald attended local schools and earned his Associates degree in Electronic Technology from Erie Tech graduating in 1957. While attending Erie Tech he served in the NY National Guard from 1955 to 1957. Ron worked for Sylvania and Bell Aerospace before relocating to Rochester in 1961. He attended RIT and worked for the University of Rochester, from which he graduated from in 1967 with his Bachelor’s degree, in the Physics Department building equipment for the Cyclotron Particle Accelerator. Ron moved to Silicon Valley in 1969 and started working for National Semiconductor, and remained out there until 2023 when he moved back to the WNY area.
Ron’s passions was hiking and photography. He created thousands of photos and was a fanatic about quality and photo editing. He hiked in several locations including The Sierras, Letchworth, the Niagara Gorge, and Ellicott Creek Park. Ron would describe his hikes with his trademark of, “the miles distance and elevation gain”. He also helped clearing of the Gulf Wilderness Trail with his saw and lopping shears. He will be missed with occasional afternoon visits by Don & “Molly”.
Ron is survived by his siblings Carolyn (Charles) Nemec, Sr. and Donald (Jeanette) Stump; uncle to Christine (Douglas) Visger, Charles (Shirley Bowning) Nemec, Jr., Carlton Nemec, Sr., and Johanna (Michael) Siembor; great uncle to Jonathan and Joshua Bennett, Charles (Ashley) Nemec, III, Caitlyn Nemec, Christopher and Alexander Siembor, Emma Visger, Jackson Nemec, and Amara Grace Nemec; also several cousins. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his two great nephews Carlton Nemec, Jr. and Brandon Nemec.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, March 15th from 12-1 PM with services following at 1 PM all in Prudden And Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Donations to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
