- Obituary for Karen Baer (Stieg)
Karen (Stieg) Baer, 79, of Wheatfield, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the DeGraff Skilled Nursing Facility, surrounded by her loving family and under the compassionate care of Niagara Hospice.
Born on September 29, 1946, in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Harriotte (Durkee) Stieg. Karen was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, where she served actively as a church council member and volunteer. Her faith and service to others were central parts of her life.
Karen worked for Niagara County following ten years as a probation officer, and later retired from Wyndham Lawn Home for Children. She was known by her family and friends for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering compassion.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband, Richard C. Baer, and devoted daughter, Leslie (Ronald) Goodwin. She also leaves behind her sister, Carolyn Moeller; grandson, Zachary Goodwin; nieces Sandra (Thomas) McPartland, Deborah (Mark) Gavin, Cheryl (Norman) Hodges; and nephew Michael (Holly) Gisman.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Judith (Clayton) Gisman, and her brother-in-law Warren Moeller.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Wattengel Funeral Home, 533 Meadow Drive, North Tonawanda, NY 14120. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM, followed by interment at Acacia Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen’s memory to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, North Tonawanda, NY 14120.
