  According to Dorine Clark Bettinger in a letter of 1 mar. 1997, Benjamin's middle name was Philip. Reported, he left his wife Mary Collins in Ellisburg, NY and settled in Ohio. He reportedly was "living with a woman" there in about 1845 (census report). He was a captain and served in the 6th Regiment Artillery with Lt. Col. Sprague in the War of 1812.
