- Guy S. "Mike" Philbrick, 73, of North Tonawanda, died Monday, November 2, 2009 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital. Mr. Philbrick was born June 15, 1936 in Niagara Falls, the son of the later Dorothy E. (Philbrick) Mallam and the late Dr. Guy S. Philbrick, and step-son of the late James Mallam. He graduated from LaSalle High School and attended Niagara University.He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1955 to 1960 and received an Honorable Discharge in June 1964. In 1978 he joined the Army Reserve and became a member of the 865th Evac Hospital out of Niagara Falls Reserve Center. In 1990 he was called to active duty as part of Desert Shield and Desert Storm and deployed with the 365th Evac Hospital. Among his decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons awarded or authorized were the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, U.S. Marine Corp Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. When he returned from operation Desert Storm he was assigned to the 865th General Hospital, Niagara Falls. In 1995 he retired from the Armed Forces with 25 years of service.Over the years he worked for Howard Johnson's Restaurant and the Ramada Inn in Niagara Falls. He worked for the Remington Rand Corp, Tonawanda, Bell Aerosystems in Wheatfield. During 1964 thru 1967, he owned and operated Wurlitzer Park Mobil Station in North Tonawanda. In 1982 he was appointed to become a New York State Correction officer. In January 2002 he retired from the Department of Corrections after 20 years of service.He previously attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Niagara Falls. He was a life member of the Conrad F. Kania Det US Marine League and Post 26 Amvets, and a member of the Niagara River Yacht Club, all in North Tonawanda.Survivors include his wife of more than 50 years, Barbara Ann (Zastrow) Philbrick of North Tonawanda; seven children, Amy Philbrick of Tampa, FL, Kelly Philbrick of Depew, Guy S. Philbrick III (late Dawn) of Niagara Falls, Lisa Ebert (Joseph) of Sanborn, Daniel Philbrick of North Tonawanda, Jodie Rodriguez of Niagara Falls, Peter Philbrick (Cheryl) of Kenmore; nine grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, William, Leighann, Ann Marie, Samantha, Guy IV, Victoria, Randy and Janelle; a great-grandson, Dillon; brother, Walter "Tom" Philbrick and wife, JoAnne of Vero Beach, FL; sister, Barbara L. Christian and husband, Chris of Estes Park, CO; step-brothers, Whitney Mallam (Bonnie) of Lewiston and David Mallam (Joanne) of Tonawanda; cousin, Claudia Peek of Niagara Falls and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Philbrick was predeceased by his brother, Robert M. Philbrick and his wife, Judith A. (Bradshaw) Philbrick.Friends may call Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, where funeral services will be held Friday 11 AM, with the Rev.
