- Marie Annette (Lang) Soos of North Tonawanda entered eternal rest November 22, 2020 – the eighth anniversary of the passing of her husband Alexander “Al” Soos. She was born in Nutley, NJ where she lived until moving to Buffalo as a teenager.
Marie met Al in Buffalo at the Madison Avenue Armory where he and her brother were practicing for Drum Corp shows. Throughout their life together they continued to follow the Drum Corp in the company of friends they met during that time.
Married for fifty-four years, they raised five children together. They were active members of their North Tonawanda community including Ascension Church and the Knights of Columbus. She and Al loved to travel, across the country and around the world, with several trips to Europe and many cruises including Alaska and the Caribbean. Their children enjoyed extended visits with them as career and service stations had them living in all parts of the world.
While she loved to travel, time spent sitting on her front porch, looking out at Pine Woods Park, with family, her cat Emma or her neighbor “Aunt” Barb, was also a source of great joy.
Marie is also predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Mary (Gaughan) Lang, her brother Joe Lang, and sister-in-law Marge Lang. She is survived by her children; Annette Hodgens (Stephen), John (Ellen), Louis, Patrick (Lori), James, two special nephews, Tim and Andrew Lang, brother-in-law Larry Soos (Linda), and many other cherished family members.
To her 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, she was simply “G”, one of the best grandma nicknames ever.
Left to cherish her memory are grandchildren: Alex Hodgens (Erika), Patrick Hodgens, Mary Kate Hunt (Joe), Brendan Hodgens (Lindsey), Jack Soos (Kerrie), Laura Ott (Ian), Daniel Soos, Matthew Soos, Michael Soos (Nicole), Benjamin Soos, Nicholas Soos, William Soos, Meghan Policella (Mike), Stephen Soos (Courtney) and great grandchildren Sloane and Perry Hodgens, Madeline Hunt, Avery Ott, and Harrison Soos, with three more great grandchildren to come very soon.
Friends will be received by the family at Wattengel Funeral Home, 533 Meadow Drive, North Tonawanda on Tuesday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church. Services will be live streamed at ssppchurch.com. Internment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The family is very grateful for the wonderful care received at Niagara Hospice House. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to niagarahospice.org so this wonderful ministry can continue to serve loved ones in need.
