Youmans, Austin B.
Austin B. "AB" Youmans, 77, Avon, formerly of Punta Gorda, FL. passed away at 5:25 a.m., Wed., March 5, 2003 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Sat., March 8 at Paterson Cemetery, St. Joseph, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Fri., March 7 at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand St., St. Joseph, IL. Mr. Youmans was born October 6, 1925 in St. Joseph, IL., the son of Austin B. and Myrtle Cole Youmans. He married Jeannette Matthew on August 21, 1948 in Remington, IN. She survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Austin Youmans of Athens, OH. and Dan (Barbara) Youmans of Gainesville, VA.; 2 daughters, Dianne Youmans of Avon, In. and Jeanne Ann Youmans of Parker, Co.; 2 granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. Mr. Youmans was a veteran of the Navy, serving in WWII. He attended the University of Illinois, becoming a life member of the Alumni Association. He began a 37-year-career in research and development at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, D.C. When he retired in 1988, he was a consultant to NRL's Tactical Electronic Warfare Division. For 16 years, he was the resident scientist at their field station at NRL Sugar Grove, WV. He was also interested in Genealogy and was a life member of the Champaign County, the Illinois and the Charlotte County, FL. Genealogical Societies. AVON, Ind. -- Austin B. "AB" Youmans, 77, Avon, Ind., formerly of Punta Gorda, FL. died at 5:25 a.m., Wednesday (March 5, 2003) at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Paterson Cemetery, St. Joseph, IL.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Fri., March 7 at Freese Funeral Home, 302 E. Grand St., St. Joseph.
Mr. Youmans was born Oct. 6, 1925, in St. Joseph, a son of Austin B. and Myrtle Cole Youmans. He married Jeannette Matthew on Aug. 21, 1948 in Remington, Ind.. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Austin Youmans of Athens, Ohio, and Dan Youmans of Gainesville, Va.; two daughters, Dianne Youmans of Avon, Ind. and Jeanne Ann Youmans of Parker, Colo.; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Mr. Youmans was a World War II Navy veteran. He attended the University of Illinois and was a life member of the alumni association.
