Leonard E. Mathew, 88
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II
Leonard E. Mathew, 88, Remington, died on Oct. 25, 2007 at 12:26 a.m. at the White County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 20, 1919 in Wolcott to William D. and Elda Granger Mathew.
He graduated from St. Joseph's Prep School in Rensselaer. He farmed north of Wolcott for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theatre with the 8th Air Corps and the 352nd Fighter Squadron. He was a staff sergeant and crew chief of aircraft maintenance. He had resided in Remington since 1987, moving there from Wolcott. He was a 61-year member of the American Legion Post 280, Tri-County School Board member for 17 years, and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington.
