- James J. Ferlito, 88 of Niagara Falls, NY, died on Saturday, December 26, 2020, at home surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, He was the son of the late Vincenzo and Maria (Capone) Ferlito. He was married to his beloved wife Jenny L. (Schiro) for 69 years on December 22. They were married at St. Joseph’s Church on Pine Ave in Niagara Falls in 1951.
Jim graduated from Trott Vocational School and was drafted into the United States Army. He fought in the Korean War in the infantry division as a cook and backup 50 caliber machine Gunner. He was honorably discharged and came home to wife Jenny and family. He worked as a shipping and receiving manager for Sears Roebuck until his retirement in the 1990’s. Jim then joined the family business, The Country Cottage Restaurant, in Pendleton, NY. He always welcomed his customers, took care of ordering, and all the daily operations that were needed. He set a high example of customer service, work ethic and reminded all the employees that our customers are always right, and they needed to be taken care of like family.
James enjoyed fishing and took many, many memorable trips with his family to Campbellford, Ontario. Jim was an avid bowler and bowled in local leagues and competed in many tournaments. He also enjoyed playing cards with family, golfing, traveling to Las Vegas, and Atlantic City with his beloved wife, who he called his Honey.
Above all these, Jim greatest achievement in his life was his family. He was the head of his family and provided wisdom, courage, and his faith. His wife Jenny was the love of his life. He was proud of his sons, Tom, and Jimmy. He adored his eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. When asked what he was grateful for the answer was always the same, “My Honey and my family!”.
Jim was a loving, humble and faith filled man. He worked hard, knew how to enjoy life, and told the best stories. He never dwelled on the past, put the future in God’s hands.
Jim is survived by his children, Thomas (Cheryl) Ferlito and Jimmy Ferlito; his grandchildren, Aliscia (Richard) Krecisz, Nicole Ferlito (James Hamilton), Anthony Ferlito, Danielle Ranney, Tommy Ferlito, Jonathan Ferlito (Jeffrey Wilson), Jimmy Ferlito, III, Jamie (John) Bernier, and Joey (Randi) Ferlito; his great-grandchildren, Izabella, Sofia, Jaydan, Savanna, Trevor, Emma, Jackson, Dominic, Aiden, and Aria; his siblings, Agnes (late Joseph) Chicco, Carmella (late Joe, Sr.) Fortuna, Josephine (Richard) Muscatello, as well as his sister-in-law Joan Wilson. He was predeceased by his siblings, Betty (Daniel) Detkos, Frances Cidilla, and Tony (June) Ferlito.
Private funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held for the family. Entombment with Military Honors at St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
