- VIRGINIA'S OBITUARY
Virginia (Confer) McInerney, of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2020 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence with her daughter, Cheryl by her side. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY on September 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Marvin and Genevieve (Fornuff) Confer. Virginia was a graduate of the former Trott Vocational High School.
She had a long working career for several local businesses including, Harvey and Carrie Drug Store on Main Street; Moe Schwartz Souvenir Shop; Purtell’s Liquor Store; Niagara Alkali and the New York Telephone Company. She retired at the age of 65 from Hooker/Occidental Chemical Company as a Lab Technician after 30 years.
Virginia was a longtime member of Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church where she devoted many years teaching Sunday school. She was also an active member of the Presbyterian Women at the church.
An avid reader, she was also an adventurer. She loved to camp with her family in private and state parks; weekends at Long Beach and a good cup of tea on her front porch, Virginia was an avid baker, especially for the holidays. She was famous for her delicious cheesecakes.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl McInerney of Niagara Falls; siblings, Gloria Scanlon; Marilyn Nicoletti and Elizabeth Macri; grandchildren, Shannon Zaker; Dean Harms; Stacey Law; Kristi Tresnak; Dwight McInerney and Ryan McInerney; great grandchildren, Jacklyn; Nathan; Jack; AnnaBelle; KeiraLynn and EmmaLeigh; a daughter in law, Ella McInerney of NC; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1971 and her son, Jeffrey McInerney.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of her life on Sunday, October 11, 2020 in Bacon Memorial Presbyterian Church, 166 – 59th Street, Niagara Falls, following the Sunday worship service at 10:30 AM. The burial was private in March in Acacia Park Cemetery. Memorial’s if desired may be made her church. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., Niagara Falls.
