- Dorothy M. Mathew, 87, of Lake Placid, Fla., formerly of Wolcott, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Lake Placid Health Care Center.
She was born in Elizabethtown, Ky., to the late Thomas and Rella Lawson Fields.
Her marriage was to Vincent D. Mathew on April 19, 1941, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington. She and her husband moved from Wolcott to Lake Placid in 1983 where they had been residents the past 25 years. Mr. Mathew survives.
Mrs. Mathew was a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Lake Placid, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Remington. Her memberships included the American Legion Auxiliary and Elks BPO Lodge, both of Lake Placid.
She enjoyed golfing, shuffleboard and playing euchre.
Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Janet Murphy (husband: Patrick) of Longboat Key, Fla., Carolyn Vogel (husband: Robert) of West Lafayette and Nancy Klopfenstein (husband: Gale) of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; two sons, Dennis Mathew (wife: Millie) of Wolcott and Robert Mathew of Logansport; and a sister, Norma Denhart (husband: Richard) of Lake Placid.
Mr. and Mrs. Mathew's marriage of 67 years was a great source of pride to them and their families. Also surviving are her 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, whom she enjoyed spending time with and loved very much. Preceded in death by a son, Steve Mathew; a grandson, Chad Mathew, and a sister, Katherine Berryman.
