- OBITUARY
Anne Margaret Jeffords of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away at the age of 89 on January 4, 2022, after a brief stay at Niagara Hospice. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on November 3, 1932, the daughter of the late John and Anne (Duprey) Russ, who were wed for 65 years.
She graduated from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Dayton, OH, after graduating from the old St. Mary’s High School in Niagara Falls. Anne was a dedicated nurse in the newborn nursery at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital for more than 30 years.
She was a member of the Niagara Falls Main Street Beautification Committee and St. Mary of the Cataract Church Choir. She enjoyed traveling to the Adirondack Mountains where she spent many summers in her youth with family. She lived a very active lifestyle, often gardening, swimming, knitting, enjoying local parks and outdoor activities, and cheering on her favorite football team, the Buffalo Bills.
For 51 years, she was married to her beloved husband, the late Norman T. Jeffords, a former Niagara County legislator. They were active members of Sacred Heart parish church for many years where their 5 children attended elementary school.
Anne became the primary “breadwinner” for the family after Norman suffered a severe stroke in the 1970’s in his mid-40’s. The couple switched traditional roles. She worked full time while he attended school events and extracurriculars with their children.
Anne served as a devoted mother to all of her children throughout their lives. Each is eternally grateful for her kind, gentle, loving manner, as well as her unwavering support through good and bad.
She is predeceased by her son Lawrence J. Jeffords.
She is survived by her adult children Mark C. Jeffords of Buffalo, Jeanette M. Judd of Niagara Falls, Marcia J. (Kevin) McNallie of Cleveland Heights, OH, and Andrea C. Turner, also of Cleveland Heights. She dearly loved her 7 grandchildren who provided
immense joy: Adam (Rachel) McNallie, Erin (Rich) McGilvray, Alison Jeffords, Emma McNallie, Anna Turner, Elizabeth Judd and Henry Turner. She was a proud great grandmother of two. Additionally, she is survived by two brothers: retired Lt. Col. Lawrence Russ of Laconia, NH and Dr. William (Barbara) Russ of Xenia, OH, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her family included 2 sisters: the late Eleanor Russ and Mary Lu Schmitt, as well as her late brothers: John, James and Leo Paul Russ.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be arranged for the immediate family in the coming weeks, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston, NY in the spring.
