- Harold C. Kroening, 82, of Sanborn, NY died Saturday, February 25th, 2006 at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, after a brief illness.
He was born on June 8, 1923, in Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, the son of the late Edwin H and Edna [ Haseley ] Kroening, and step son of the late Helen [ Haseley ] Kroening and was a graduate of LaSalle High School, in 1942.
Harold entered the United States Army on February 13, 1943 and was a squad leader serving in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal, prior to his separation from service with the rank of S Sgt., on November 20, 1945. Following his military career he was associated the family run Kroening's Garage in Sanborn for over 45 years, before retiring in 1985.
He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY, where he has served as an Elder and Head Usher for many years.
He was an honorary member of the Sanborn Fire Company, and had been a member of the Sanborn Fire Co. Band. He served as a member of the Sanborn Library Board of Trustee's for several years, and was a member of the Sanborn American Legion and the Sanborn Area Historical Society.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, the former Janet E. Pack, a daughter, Amy [ Ross ] Folmsbee, of Sanborn; a daughter-in-law Kathy Kroening-Armstrong, of Rochester, Monroe County, NY; a sister, Gladys [ Benjamin ] Haseley, of Sanborn; a brother, Gilbert [ Norma ] Kroening, of Ransomville, NY; 4 grandchildren, Jonathan Folmsbee; David, Melissa and Laura Kroening, an aunt, Audrey Haseley, of Calabash, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Kroening and his son, Bruce Kroening.
The family will be present at Tuesday 3 - 7 PM at RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, SANBORN, 5893 Hoover Road.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 716 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls, Niagara County, NY. at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, with Rev. Evan Gaertner officiating. Burial will be in the Niagara Falls Memorial Park, Lewiston, Niagara County, NY.
Should friends desire memorials may be made in Harold's memory to Grace Lutheran Church or the charity of one's choice.
