Former Carbo Foreman Dies
John DeVantier. 78, of 1627 Weston Ave.. a retired foreman of the Carborundum County, died today (Aug. 30, 1958) at 'Memorial Hospital after a six-month illness.
Born in Bergholtz, Mr. DeVantier resided in this city for 60 years. He was well-known in the Pine Ave. area, where for many years he did general handyman work at several homes. He was employed at the Carborundum for 26 years before retiring in 1946. Mr. DeVantier was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he was a past deacon and elder.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Agnes DeVantier; a son, Max F. Haseley, of Lewiston; one brother, William DeVantier, Bergholtz; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Camann, Bergholtz, and Mrs. William Siegman, St. Johnsburgh (sic), and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Gridley Funeral Home, Tuesday at 2 p.m. and at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2:30. The Rev. Evan J. Bartell will officiate. Burial wil1 be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Bergholtz.
