Worked at her husband's company for 37 years
WHEATFIELD - Gladys M. (Walck) DeVantier, 62, of Lockport Road,. died Wednesday (June 24, 1998) m Buffalo General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Wheatfield, the daughter of William and Selma (Walck) Walck.
She had lived in the Sanborn area her entire life, attending local schools and graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1954. Mrs. DeVantier worked for the former Kimberly-Clark Corp. from 1954 to 1958, and later was a courier for the MDS Lab for six years.
She married Ralph DeVantier on Nov. 3, 1956. She worked at his construction company as a bookkeeper and secretary for 37 years.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Lewiston, and the Wheatfield Jaycees. She also had been active with the Niagara County 4H Program for many years.
Mrs. DeVantier enjoyed gardening, bowling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Sandra Retzlaff of Sanborn and Amy Bessel of Niagara Falls; three sons, Duane DeVantier of North Tonawanda, Kent DeVantier of Cleveland and Bruce DeVantier of Lewiston; one brother, Edgar Walck of Sanborn; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Irma Haseley.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Friday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 5893 Hoover Road, Sanborn. The Rev. Milan J. Slahor will conduct services at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 915 Oneida Street, Lewiston. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst.
Memorial contributions may he made to the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston, N.Y. 14092; or to the Niagara Dialysis Clinic, 3018 Military Road, Niagara Falls, N.Y. 14304.

Gladys M. DeVantier, 62, of Lockport Road, a native of Wheatfield and lifelong resident of the Sanborn area, died Wednesday (June 24, 1998) in Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness.
The former Gladys M. Walck was a 1954 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. Mrs. DeVantier worked at the former Kimberly-Clark plant in Niagara Falls from 1954 to 1958 and she was a courier for the MDS Laboratory for six years.
She was associated with her husband, Ralph, as a bookkeeper and secretary in his construction company for 37 years.
Mrs. DeVantier was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah of Lewiston and of the Wheatfield Jaycees. She was active in the Niagara County 4-H Program for many years, and she enjoyed gardening and bowling.
Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Sandra Retzlaff of Sanborn and Amy Bessel of Niagara Falls; three sons, Duane of North Tonawanda, Kent of Cleveland, and Bruce of Lewiston; a brother, Edgar Walck of Sanborn; and six grandchildren.
