SANBORN — Donald R. Luick, of Sanborn, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at his residence. He was 81. He was born December 20, 1929 in Niagara Falls, a son of the late Elmer and Lillian (Haseley) Luick.
Mr. Luick grew up in LaSalle and as a youth he passed time swimming in Love Canal. He attended local schools and entered the United States Navy in 1949, and served until his honorable discharge in 1953. Mr. Luick received numerous military commendations, including the National Defense, China and United Nations Service Medals and the Good Conduct and Korean Service Medals. Upon his discharge, Mr. Luick worked at Kimberly-Clark until its closing, at which point he began work with Battenfeld Grease & Oil in North Tonawanda. He enjoyed cooking, hunting, gardening and cutting wood, but most of all he enjoyed his time with his family.
He is survived by five children, Donna (Mike) Hubbard, Richard Luick, Susan (Thomas) Walker, Carol (Steve) Biro, Jennifer Luick. Mr. Luick is also survived by three step-children, Craig Chew, Terrence Chew and Rebecca (David) Sly; a brother, Warren (Marilyn) Luick; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Beverley (Chew) Luick (2009); step-mother, Agnes Luick; brothers, Bob (Ruby) and Earl (Arlene) Luick and his sister, Carol Luick (Roger).
Friends may call at the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, on Sunday from 4-8 PM. Services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Drive, on Monday at 11 AM. Burial will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in Pendleton.
