TOWN OF WHEATFIELD — Norbert G. Lange, 78, a lifelong resident of the Town of Wheatfield, was called to his heavenly home, after a brief illness, on December 16, 2010. He was born on June 5, 1932 to William and Esther Lange.
Norbert graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1950 and the University of Buffalo, School of Engineering, later earning his Professional Engineering License. He started his professional career at Stauffer Chemical and continued at Occidental Petroleum and at Wendel Engineering, where he was a principal. He was also a part-time engineering professor at NCCC.
He was awarded two patents by the United States Patent Office while employed by Occidental. Norbert never retired and continued the love for his profession as construction manager of Calspan, Niagara Falls Airport, Adams Fire Company Hall No. 2, Wheatfield and the WNY Breast Health Center, Amherst. He also built several private hangars at the Niagara Falls Airport and had his private pilot license.
A lifelong member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Norbert served as past President and Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alice (Milleville) Lange of 58 years; four children, Keith (Wendy) Lange of the Town of Wheatfield, Marsha Dixson of Saline, MI, Karen (Merwan) Mereby of Denville, NJ and Gregory (Barbara) Lange of the Town of Wheatfield; two sisters, Eleanor Moll and Gertrude Krull, both of the Town of Wheatfield; a brother, William (Nancy) Lange of Grove City, PA; eight grandchildren, Scott (Denise), Jeffrey (Jaime) and Aaron (fiancee Joelle) Lange, Shawn and Deanna Dixson, Sarah and Stephen Mereby, Austin Lange; four great-grandchildren, Marissa, Matthew, Bridgette and Abigail Lange; several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present Saturday from 5-9 PM and Sunday from 1-4, 7-9 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME INC., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls. Funeral services will be held Monday 11 AM in St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6168 Walmore Road, Sanborn, NY 14132. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the church, St. Peter’s Lutheran Parochial School or to Niagara Hospice, Inc., 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
