- Melinda Hicks Jenkins, age 50, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2017 with her family by her side. Her journey with cancer was an example of strength and courage to all who knew her. Born on July 5, 1967 in Lewiston, New York, Melinda grew up in Bristol, Tennessee. She graduated from Tennessee High School and East Tennessee State University. In addition to her bachelor's degree, Melinda earned her master's degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University and worked as a social worker for the VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. Melinda married her husband, Neff Jenkins, on October 17, 1998. They relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in June of 1999. In Jacksonville she continued her career in social work at the Children's Home Society and Baptist Medical Center until her first child was born. Melinda was a devoted wife, a loving and dedicated mother, a skilled cook, and the best friend anyone could have. She was quick with a smile, adventurous, fun loving, thoughtful, and a loyal friend. Melinda had a strong faith in God and lived her faith through her family and friends. She also had a generous spirit for her community, serving through the Junior League of Jacksonville and the Women's Board of Wolfson Children's Hospital.
Melinda is survived by her husband, Neff Jenkins; three children Luke (16), Kelly (14), and Avery (10); her parents Don and Karen Hicks; brothers Christopher Hicks and Jonathan Hicks; and sister Rebecca Whittemore
