- Robert Dean “Bob” Winter, age 88, of North Tonawanda, entered into his eternal home on January 18, 2019, while under the care of Hospice at Northgate Nursing Home. Bob was born in Findlay, OH, he was the son of the late Avery Perry and Letha Fern (Cummins) Winter. Beloved husband of Marilyn (nee Jagow) (Warblow) Winter for over 46 years. Devoted father of twins Richard P. (Peggy) Winter and Ronald J. (Joan) Winter, Robin S. (Ray) Jasper and Matthew J. (Elisabeth) Winter. Stepfather of Marci (Patrick R. Wheeler) Siezega, Randy, Ross and Daniel Warblow; father-in-law of Jared Siezega. Grandfather of Elliott (Alicia) Winter, Nathan (Bridget) Winter, Rachel and Lydia Winter, Daryl Klimecko, Austin and Colin Jasper, Cody (Rochelle) Siezega, Jason Warblow, Nicholas (Alicia) Warblow, Derek (Hannah) Warblow and Ashlyn and Brendan Warblow; and 8 great-grandchildren. Brother of Verna Rutherford and the late Wilbur, Roland and Mary Samson; uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Bob enlisted in the Air Force in 1948, he saw active duty in the Korean War and was also stationed in Japan. He had worked on the Niagara Falls power project as a surveyor. He had been employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a North Tonawanda letter carrier, retiring in 1988. He had also enjoyed working as a Microfilmer at the North Tonawanda City Hall and worked full-time running the laundry operation at the Niagara County Jail. After he retired again, he worked as a driver for AutoZone until 3 years ago when he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a type of blood cancer. Bob fought hard and bravely, despite being on oxygen and multiple medications. He was an avid bowler on several teams for over 50 years until last year. Bob was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he had served as a President, Trustee, Deacon, Sunday School Treasurer, and member of the Altar Guild. He was a member of the American Legion, Sikora Post 1322.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc. 1241 Oliver St. at Ward Rd. in North Tonawanda on Friday, FEBRUARY 1st from 2 – 4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday FEBRUARY 2nd at 11 A.M. from Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thompson & Falconer Sts. in North Tonawanda. The Rev. David Beutel will officiate, interment in St. Mark Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church. Guest register available at frettholdfuneralhome.com.
