NIAGARA FALLS - Robert E. Ferchen, age 82, of Bergholz, was called to his heavenly home on November 1, 2010 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Born in the Town of Wheatfield, NY, on January 2, 1928 to the late Valerius and Helene (Voelker) Ferchen.
A lifelong member of St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, Bergholz. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Wendt on June 3, 1950. She entered into rest December 5, 1997. Robert is a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the American Legion- Wheatfield Post 1451 and an exempt member of the Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company. His hobbies and interests included baseball, playing euchre and gardening. He was employed at Canlake-Ashland Oil Company and NOCO in Tonawanda, retiring as a supervisor in 1990.
Survivors include two children, Cary (Laura) Ferchen and Claudia Ferchen; grandchildren, Christopher (Michelle) Ferchen, Donna (Ron) Ferchen, Tim (fiancee Franci) Ferchen and Jonathan Ferchen; step-grandchildren, Lisa (Andrew) Ferree and Erin (Michael) Jankowiak; a great-grandchild, Savannah and step-great-grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah and Madison; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, wife, a brother, Valerius Ferchen; and a sister, Marjorie Eustice.
Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz) in Wheatfield on Wednesday from 4 - 8 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Jeff Milsten, on Thursday at 11:00 AM in St. James Ev. Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Rohr Street in Bergholz. Interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
