Thomas H. Schmidt, 53, a former area resident who was transferred out of state by Bethlehem Steel Corp., died Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) when he was stricken in Bel Air, MD., where he had lived for 12 years. He died in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air. Schmidt was born in Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara-Wheatfield Senior High School in 1965. For the past 32 years, he had been a commercial manager for Bethlehem Steel, starting at its Lackawanna plant. In 1983, the company transferred him to Indiana and then to Maryland, where he worked at its Sparrows Point plant. He was a member of Maryland Golf and Country Club and Bel Air Athletic Club. Survivors include his wife, the former Deborah Mietlicki; three sons, David D. of Bel Air and Aaron D. and Michael J., both of Towson, MD.; a daughter, Lisa A. Dill of Bel Air; his mother, Gertrude of Niagara Falls; two brothers, Michael J. of Sanborn and Mark T. of Bergholz; and three grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday in St. James Lutheran Church, 2437 Niagara Road, Bergholz.
