- Mary L. Beckett "Greta Gooch", age 79, of Amherst, formerly of Tonawanda, died Friday, October 13, 2017 at Schofield Residence in the Town of Tonawanda, after a long illness. Born August 4, 1938 in the Town of Lewiston, she was the daughter of the late George and Dolores (nee Doebler) Beckett and had been a resident of Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. Before retiring, Mary had been employed at Niagara Mohawk. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Tonawanda where she had been involved with the Pro-Life Committee and the Mission and Prayer Groups.
She was the sister of Kathy Brenon, Carol (Greg) Galdon, George (Sandy) Beckett, James (Joan) Beckett, and the late David Beckett, Judy Henderson, Patricia Barth, and John Beckett; and was the loving companion of the late James LaFleur. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
There is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday at St. Francis Chapel, 71 Adam Street, Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. Inurnment at St. Francis Chapel Columbarium. If desired, memorials to St. Francis Church, 73 Adam Street, Tonawanda, NY 14150; Priests for Life, PO Box 236695, Cocoa, FL 32923; or the American Heart Association, 5488 Sheridan Drive, #300, Williamsville, NY 14221; are preferred by the family.
