- Katherine J. Pankow, age 84 of North Tonawanda, NY, was called to her heavenly home on September 3, 2025 at the Family Care Senior Living, in Norfolk, VA. Born on January 9, 1941; daughter of the late Albert and Viola (Getty) Vossen. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, in Wheatfield, NY. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Pankow, Jr. on December 1, 2005. Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, Friday -October 10 from 4-8 p.m. A private graveside service with the family will take place on October 11, in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield, NY, with the Rev. Katherine J. Pankow, age 84 of North Tonawanda, NY, was called to her heavenly home on September 3, 2025 at the Family Care Senior Living, in Norfolk, VA. Born on January 9, 1941; daughter of the late Albert and Violet (Getty) Vossen. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, in Wheatfield, NY. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Pankow, Jr. on December 1, 2005. Katherine and George were know for their business, Pumpkin Village in Wheatfield. It originated at Irene and George Pankow's home located on Niagara Falls Boulevard, and as it grew in size, it was moved to Nash Road, where it continued for decades, with the help of many family members. Many local schools took weekend field trips for the experience. Katherine was a talented seamstress, making clothes for the family, and even doll clothes. She also enjoyed painting, drawing and crocheting. Christmas was a special time at the Pankow home, and was a big family event on Christmas Eve, with their iconic tree. Family members would each receive Bronners hand blown ornaments as gifts. Besides all these accomplishments, Katherine was a devoted homemaker, and always helped family members that were going through hard times.Survivors include three children, Michael (Susan) Pankow, Patricia Snider, and Mary Childs; five grandchildren, Daniel Snider, Jackie Belanger, Bradley Snider, Anna Werth, and Mason Childs; two great-grandchildren, Ellis Werth and James Michael Belander. Also preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Goerss.Friends may call at the DuBois Funeral Home, Friday -October 10 from 4-8 p.m. A graveside service will take place on October 11, at 11:00 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Wheatfield, NY, with the Rev. Denton White, officiating. Friends in attendance are invited to join with the family at Panes Restaurant, on Payne Avenue, N. Tonawanda following the service.
