LOCKPORT — Janice Miriam (Gow) Seitz, 68, of Newfane and beloved wife of Dennis Roger Seitz, passed away Oct. 23, 2012, at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jan was born to Robert and Laura Jean (Bower) Gow on Sept. 6, 1944 in North Tonawanda. She and Dennis were married in Burt, NY on Oct. 15, 1963, and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary recently. They raised their family in Newfane.
In addition to her husband, Jan is survived by her four children, Dennis Richard Seitz (Barbara) of Huntersville, NC; Darcie Jean LaFever (Chad) of Olcott; James Robert Seitz (Elizabeth) of Denver, NC; and Julie Marie Seitz of Newfane; and by her brother, James Lyle Gow (April) and sisters, Margaret Joanne Gothard and Elizabeth Jean Mentkowski (Larry). She will also be greatly missed by nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and especially by her nine grandchildren: Ryan and Rebecca LaFever, Kirsten LaFever Wells (Nicholas), Dennis and Meghan Seitz, Carter and Peyton Seitz, Tyler Barney and Brayden Saraf-Seitz. Jan was predeceased by her parents and by her baby sister, Judy.
Jan grew up on a turkey farm on Hess Road in Newfane. She worked at the Newfane Nursing Home. She also worked as a teacher's aide at Newfane Central School and at Williamsville North High School. When her husband coached at Newfane, Williamsville North and Indian River Central School in Watertown, there was no bigger supporter than Jan. She will be remembered for her kind nature, her funny stories and her ability to turn strangers into friends wherever she went. Most of all, Jan will be remembered as a person who would sacrifice everything for those whom she loved. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Friday, Oct. 26, at Grace Bible Church, 6023 Dutton Place, Newfane, NY 14108. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Jan's name be made to Niagara Hospice House, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094-1231.
