- Walter E. Strasburg Received Purple Heart in WW I
Walter E. Strasburg, who received a Purple Heart while serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, died in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Monday (Feb. 24, 1986). He was 89. A resident of Cayuga Drive, he was born in Niagara Falls' LaSalle area. Strasburg was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Bergholz and a charter member of the John J. Welch Post 381 American Legion. He worked at the Nabisco Co. for 49 years as a supervisor until retiring in 1966. He is survived by his wife, Dollie L. (Hartman} Strasburg and many nieces and nephews. Three sisters and five brothers died earlier. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Hamp Funeral Home, Adam and Seymour streets, Tonawanda, with the Rev. Lyle E. Larson of St. James Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at St. Matthews Lutheran Cemetery, North Tonawanda. Contributions to the A.L.C. Hunger Fund, or to Lutheran Vespers are acceptable as tribute. Arrangements were made by the DuBois Funeral Home.
