Sylvester G. Blank, a retired machinist and former auto mechanic, died Saturday (Nov. 21, 1998) in Mount View Health Facility, Lockport, after a long illness.
Blank, 88, formerly of Saunders Settlement Road, was born in the Town of Niagara and moved to Sanborn in 1958.
He was employed by the New York Central Railroad as a freight handler for 10 years. He then worked as an auto mechanic for 25 years for Niagara Falls Oldsmobile dealers. He later worked as a machinist at Zonel Paper Machine in Lockport, retiring in 1975.
Blank was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls, the Western New York Gas and Steam Engines Association of Alexander and the Sanbornite Senior Citizens.
He had been an avid roller skater in his younger years.
His wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Arndt Blank, died in 1989.
He is survived by a son, Frederick G.; two daughters, Betty Jean Clark of Ransomville and Linda Ann Moxham of Highland, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 18th Street and Cleveland Avenue, Niagara Falls. Burial will be in Wrights Corners Cemetery, Newfane
