WILSON - Verna Garnet Farquharson, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, after a short illness. Born December 26, 1917, Verna was the daughter of the late William and Emma (Trippensee) Strassburg of Pekin, NY. She was the wife of the late Lee Farquharson, longtime Highway Superintendent of the Town of Wilson. Verna was a member of the Wilson community for more than forty years, when she returned to Pekin to help raise her grandsons. Verna was known as a quiet Good Samaritan who regularly cared for family and those she knew in need; for her commitment to the congregation of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wilson, and for her faith in God. She was dedicated to her family, and attended seventy years of Ransom Family reunions. At age 86, she traveled to Brazil to celebrate her granddaughter's first birthday. Verna passed away among family, under the care of Niagara Hospice, in the house in which she was born. Verna is survived by her son, Daniel Farquharson of Alexandria, VA; son, Dennis, daughter-in-law, Arlete and granddaughter, Anne Farquharson of Ribeirao Preto, Brazil; daughter, Sylvia Gugino, son-in-law, Brian and grandsons, Lee and Glenn Gugino of Pekin; her brothers, Everen Strassburg and Mrylin Strassburg of Niagara Falls; and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Lee in 1981; and by her brothers Harland and Orville. Verna cherished contacts with friends and extended family throughout her life. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 18th at 11:00 AM in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 220 Young St., Wilson, NY, with the Rev. Ron Haefer officiating. Following the ceremony an open house for family and friends will be held at Verna's home, 3166 Upper Mountain Rd., Pekin, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent for community aid to St. Paul Lutheran Church, PO Box 490, Wilson, NY 14172.
