- Glenn L. Wendt of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017, in DeGraff Memorial Hospital, North Tonawanda, NY. He was born at home in Sanborn on May 7, 1930, the son of the late William B. and Grace E. (Wendt) Wendt. Mr. Wendt attended Trott Vocational High School. He worked with his uncle at Wendt Frozen Foods in Buffalo before taking over the family farm and sold Minneapolis Moline tractors. Mr. Wendt worked construction with Smith Brothers and became an operating engineer with Operating Engineer Local 463, until retiring in 1995. He was a life-member of the Sanborn Fire Company, where he served as President and Fire Chief. He had been on every truck committee since 1966 up until the two last fire trucks were purchased. He was active in all the fire companies' activities. Mr. Wendt served as Past President of Niagara County Fire Chiefs Association, FASNY and many other fire related associations. He was a member of the Sanborn Historical Society and Holy Ghost Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and NASCAR. Mr. Wendt is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean (Smith) Wendt; one son, Jay (Susan) Wendt; three daughters, Dr. Joanne (Tony) Clews, Judy (Robert) Hoover and Joy (Richard) Frerichs; eight grandchildren, Robert (Darci) Hoover, Christina (Mike) Herlan, Thomas (Jen Schepis) Hoover, Jennifer (Jeff) Melear, Michael (Julie) Frerichs, Jamie (Dan) Lukasiewicz, Tiffany (Vincent Aquino) and Brandon (fiance'e, Emma Grayson) Wendt; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Forrest (late Gail) Wendt; a sister, Gracelyn (late John) Bilek; also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald (Dorothy), Marvin (Ruth), Bertram (Norine), William (Darla) and Kenneth (Dianne) Wendt. The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, on Saturday from 7-9 PM and on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The Sanborn Fire Co. memorial service will be Sunday at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Luther Street and Niagara Road, Bergholtz, with the Rev. Philip Sallach officiating. Flowers gratefully declined, memorials may be made in his name to the Holy Ghost Church or to the Samborn Fire Co. Interment in Holy Ghost Cemetery, Town of Wheatfield, NY
