- Kenneth L. Wendt, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2009, at Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, NY. He was born in Sanborn, NY on January 21, 1934, the son of the late William B. and Grace E. (Wendt) Wendt.Ken graduated from North Tonawanda High School. He was a Seabee with the U.S. Navy, during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a painter with Lou Anastasi, with his brother, Donald, at Wendt's Gas and with Niagara Mohawk for several years. Ken started Ken Wendt's Propane Gas Service in Sanborn in 1968, which he continued to operate for the next 35 years. He was a State and National officer with the Seabee Veterans of America, a member of the Island X-8 Tonawanda Seabees and chairman of the Seabee Monument Committee on River Road. He was a member of the Sanborn Fire Co. for 58 years and a member of the Fire Companies Exempts, NYSFA. Ken was active in the Sanborn Community over the years as a member of the, Sanborn Lions Club, the Niagara Central Rotary Club and the Sanborn Historical Society. He will always be remembered, for his "Can Do" attitude. Ken is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dianne S. (Sawyer) Wendt; three sons, Mark K. (Maria) Wendt of Waldorf, MD, Paul R. (Susan) Wendt of Ransomville, NY and Todd W. (Emma) Wendt of Sanborn, NY; one daughter, Dana (Scott) Wendt- Vermilya of Arlington, MA; ten grandchildren, Janice, Joshua (Sara), Jacob, Trevor, Kyle (Megan), Kari (Richard) Jones, Kati, Diana, Kimberly and Eric; three great-granddaughters, Kyara, Savanna Jones and Emma; two brothers, Glenn ( Jean) Wendt and Forrest (late Gail) Wendt; a sister, Gracelyn (late John) Bilek; two sisters-in-laws, Norine and Darla Wendt; also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Donald (Dorothy), Marvin (Ruth), Bertram and William, Jr.The family will be present at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The Seabee services will be held Saturday at 7:30 PM and the Sanborn Fire Co. services will be Sunday at 7:30 PM. Funeral Services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Luther Street and Niagara Road, Bergholtz, with the Rev. Philip N. Sallach officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in his name to the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Assoc., 555 Fairview Ave., Creve Coeur, IL 61610-3237 or to Holy Ghost Church.
