Teacher, principal in Sanborn
CAMBRIA - Grace 1. (Bolduan) Mehls, 62, of Lockport Junction Road, a teacher and principal at St. Peter's Lutheran School in Sanborn for 21 years, died Monday (March 7, 1988) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Mrs. Mehls earned a degree in education from Manakato (sic) State Teachers College in Minnesota and taught in several school systems in that state. She married Paul F. Mehls in 1949 and moved to the moved to the Niagara Falls area. Mrs. Mehls returned to teaching after staying home to raise four children until they reached school age. She was a substitute teacher in Lockport and Starpoint schools, then taught first and second grade at St. Peter's Lutheran School. She taught at St. Peter's for 10 years, then became principal. Mrs. Mehls was a native of New Richland, MN She graduated from high school there in 1943. In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Richard Mehls of Lockport and David Mehls of Franklin Town, Pa.; daughters, Karen Mehls Jackson of Dillsburg, Pa., and Linda Kurzik of York, Pa.; her mother, Alice Bolduan of New Richland, MN; brothers, Bernard Bolduan and Orville Bolduan, both of New Richland, MN; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Edward Bolduan. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Thursday at the Grimes Funeral Home, 7311 Porter Road, Town of Niagara. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Calvary Lutheran Church, 18th Street and Cleveland A venue, Niagara Falls. The Rev. Albert R. Laese will conduct the service. Burial will be in St. Paul Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Bergholz. Contributions to St. Peter's Lutheran Church School and the Niagara Oncology Association, 620 10th St., Suite 701, Niagara Falls, are acceptable as tributes.
