- Hannah Mary (nee Hurley) Collins, 78, of Niagara Falls, NY and Cork City, Ireland, passed away peacefully at home in Ireland on January 4, 2021. Born on August 26,
1942 in Cork City, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late James Hurley, and
Ellen (nee Harrington) Hurley.
Hannah emigrated to the U.S. in 1959 and married Norman Collins at St. Mary of the Cataract RC Church in Niagara Falls.
They were married for over 30 years and resided in Niagara Falls until Norman’s death in 2004. Hannah and Norman had one only child, Ellen Theresa, who was stillborn. They devoted their lives to each other, and were very active in the American Legion John J Welch post 381, where Norman was the commander for many years. After Norman’s death, Hannah returned to her beloved Ireland, but always expressed the desire and intention to return to the US after her death to be buried next to her late husband.
In Ireland, Hannah’s companion was the late Billy Lewis. He and his family were a loving support to her for 15 years until Billy’s death in 2018. Hannah is survived by her first cousin Mary (Don) Steele of Niagara Falls, NY, brother-in-law, Eric Bishop of Cork City, Ireland, and nephew Stephen Bishop also of Cork, Ireland and various extended family and friends in Ireland, including her dear friend Trish Costigan.
Private prayers of committal and entombment were held in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, with Rev. Jacek Mazur serving as celebrant. Arrangements are under the care of Michael R.
