- JANETTE'S OBITUARY
Mother, Friend, and role model, Janette Andrews Lemley, of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, October 19, 2023. Janette was born in Milwaukee, WI, in 1926, to parents Walter and Erna (Meister) Schildhauer. The family moved to Niagara Falls when Janette was very young where she grew up with younger siblings, jokester brother Bill and sister Ellen, who she will now join, along with their parents, and daughter-in-law Nancy in their heavenly home.
Janette was artistic from a young age. She loved to draw, especially sketches of dresses that she would sometimes later make. She painted and knitted and in her usual charitable way would make hats and shawls for the church bazaar and the needy. She was a talented seamstress sewing most of her clothes and everything from Barbie clothes and Halloween costumes to wedding dresses. In addition to these hobbies, Janette had a passion for gardening. Her drawing talents came in handy to secure work as an illustrator and designer/draftsman which she did for many years.
At age 24 she met John Andrews, fell in love, and moved to his home town of Paisley, Scotland to be married. They lived there for a year before returning to make the U.S. and Niagara Falls their permanent home. Janette and “Jack,” who owned a barber shop, had a busy but loving household having five children together Mark (Trisha), Craig (Sandy), Jeffrey (Ann), Eric (Grace), and Eileen (John).
After her husband “Jack” passed away in December of 1981, Janette was lucky enough to find love again. She married Clarence Lemley and the family grew to include step-sons, Richard (Diane), and Paul.
Janette was a beautiful Christian soul and lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church. Her faith kept her involved with many things at church over the years including teaching Sunday school, volunteering at the church second hand shop (LADD), singing in the choir, studying with the Bible group, and being actively involved with the Grace Ladies.
People were drawn to Janette because of her kindness, warmth, and joyful personality. She had many lifelong girlfriends who were similar in nature. Affectionately called the Lunch Bunch, they would meet monthly for lunch and conversation for over 50 years.
Janette also enjoyed travelling. She and Clarence drove their camper across the country three times but they also liked little weekends away to local campgrounds. She especially loved trips that included getting together with family. A group trip to Scotland with about 20 of her family being one of her favorites.
Janette lived a beautiful, wholesome life and brought her smile with her everywhere.
Janette is survived by all of her children from both marriages, grandchildren John (Kristin), Scott, Jake, Megan (Shane), Jessica, Ilea (Matthew), Hunter, Myles, Katherine, Andrew and Dylan, Rich (Dee), Leanna (John), and Eric, Maureen (Ian) and Alison. Great Grandchildren Ava, Adler, Evelyn, Brock, Tiffany, Marcus, Steven, Aaron, Kaleb, Lucie, Emma, Violet, Nate and Leo.
Visitation will be at Lane Funeral Home, Inc., 8622 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14304 on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 4 to 7pm. A funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 736 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls NY 14304 on Saturday, October 28, at 11 am followed by interment at Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery.
