Thomas H. Hughes, Jr., age 78, of Sanborn, was called unexpectedly to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on September 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Thomas and Juletta (Weller) Hughes, Sr. Tom served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952-1956, and received an honorable discharge. He was employed as a steamfitter with Local 129 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Niagara Falls, until his retirement. Tom was a longtime member of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Bergholz. He enjoyed exercising on a regular basis and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Ann (Fuerch) Hughes. They were united in marriage on February 8, 1958; four children, Cathryn (Michael) Renzoni, James (Donna) Hughes, Richard (Nancy) Hughes and John (Tina) Hughes; two sisters, Claudia Richards of CA and Dorothy Argona of LA; brother, Paul Hughes of CA; and nine grandchildren, Daniel Lynch, Jonathan, Alicia, Matthew, Tommy, Zach, Lauren, Rachel and Joseph Hughes.
Friends may call at the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME, 2436 Niagara Road, (Bergholz), in Wheatfield on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Philip N. Sallach and the Rev. Ernest R. Green III on Thursday, August 28, at 11:30 AM in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, corner Niagara Road and Luther Street in Bergholz. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Ghost Lutheran School.
