- Walter G. Belling, age 85, of Pendleton, passed away Friday November 6, 2009 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport. Mr. Belling was born March 16, 1924, son of the late Henry and Auguste (nee Ewald) Belling. Mr. Belling attended Tonawanda High School, he served in the United States Army during WWII, he was a PFC with the 511th Airborne Signal Corps, serving from January 23, 1943 until his discharge on February 17, 1946. Mr. Belling was a self employed contractor, he was the Town of Pendleton Building Inspector, he also had worked in the display department for Sears and Roebuck. Mr. Belling was a active life time member of St. Martin Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was chairman of the renovation committee, in 1985 remodeling St. Martin Church, he designed and made the wooden cross for the church's altar. He headed the committee to build the addition to Pendleton's Historical Society where he also taught wood carving classes. He was a member of the Niagara Frontier all Airborne Chapter and it's Honor Guard. Mr. Belling was a expert wood carver, specializing in birds, he had built two homes and most of the furniture in them. Beloved husband of 59 years to Eileen (nee Tesmer) Belling of Pendleton; devoted father of Judith (John) Flint, Welland, Ontario, Janine (Craig) Powley, Lockport, Jill Swanger, Hailey, ID; proud grandfather of Jassen (Colleen) Otto, Buffalo, Eric (Jania) Otto, Saratoga, CA, Kerissa (Dennis) Koch, Buffalo, Tarra Powley, Pittsburgh, PA, Erika (Jeremy) Greenberg, Hailey ID, Craig Swanger, Hailey ID; proud great grandfather of Ethan Walter Otto, Saratoga, CA, Tristan Jay Otto, Saratoga, CA, and Elsie O'Mara Otto, Buffalo; brother of Leonard (late Jane) Belling, Williamsville, Edgar (Nancy) Belling, North Tonawanda, Earl (Suzanne) Belling, West Amherst, Ellen (Tom) Seely, Brownwood TX, late Clara (Lauren) DeGlopper, late Verna (Robert) Millville, late Alice Belling, late Norma (Robert) Wells, late Hugo (Marie) Belling and late Florence (John) Leaver; brother-in-law of Irving (Lorraine) Tesmer, Buffalo; also survived by many nieces and nephews.A Celebration of His Life will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Martin Lutheran Church, 322 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda, the Rev.
