NORTH TONAWANDA -- Melvin S. Pierce, a longtime employee of B.F. Goodrich Chemicals, died Wednesday in DeGraff Memorial Hospital under the care of Niagara Hospice. He was 90.
The lifelong North Tonawanda resident graduated from
Niagara University.
During World War II, he served stateside in the Army Air Forces.
Mr. Pierce worked for the chemical company for 24 years and for the state Department of Civil Service for seven years.
He was a member of North Presbyterian Church, serving on the Session for many years. He was a member of a senior citizens group, the Niagara Falls Traffic Management Club and the budget committee of United Givers Fund of Niagara Falls.
Mr. Pierce was known for his sense of humor and storytelling.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Bernice Wurl; a daughter, Nancy Flemming of North Tonawanda; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 10 A.M. Monday in Wattengel Funeral Home, 307 Oliver St. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery, Amherst.
