LEWISTON - Betty Jane Wurl, an extraordinary cook and seamstress, was called to her heavenly home on Friday (April 4, 2014) in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home, Lewiston, following a lengthy illness. She was 89.
The former Betty Fritz was born in North Tonawanda to Walter and Leona Fritz and was a graduate of North Tonawanda High School.
Mrs. Wurl was well-known as a cook in the Wheatfield area and was famous for her pork chops and German potato salad. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting and sewing.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Fred "Fritz" Wurl of Lewiston; a son, Dennis (Edele) of Wheatfield; a daughter, Kathleen (Stephen) Keller of Wheatfield; a brother, Gordon Fritz of Buffalo; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Wurl.
There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service will take place at 11 AM Saturday (4/12/14) in St. Paul Lutheran Church, 453 Old Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Park, North Tonawanda. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Arrangements were with the DUBOIS FUNERAL HOME (731-3234).
