- Margaret "Peggy" (Young) Galko
August 26, 1947 - August 9, 2022
Margaret “Peggy” (Young) Galko, lifetime resident of Niagara Falls, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022. She was 74. She was born in Niagara Falls on August 26, 1947, a daughter of the late Robert and Florence (Johnson) Young. She attended Madonna High School then began her career as a civil servant at the Niagara Falls Airforce Base and ending that career as a legal assistant at the Small Business Administration.
While working at the Air Force Base, she met Second Lieutenant John Galko; they married in 1969 and remained happily married until his death in 2003. In the middle of her two government roles, she was a stay-at-home mom but also served as integral support for her husband's home electronics business.
She is survived by her three children: Anne Galko, Jason Galko and Jeffrey Galko; their spouses; and five grandchildren. As the seventh born in a family of twelve children, she has countless nieces and nephews to whom she was Aunt Peggy in addition to being loving sister to so many.
In her later career years, Margaret took on adventurous travel assignments with the SBA and made life-long friendships. She will be missed as a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, aunt and friend! And of course, phenomenal storyteller and advice giver to all.
All are welcome to attend a funeral mass at Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls, Tuesday August 16 at 11:00. In honor of Margaret's proud, steadfast refusal to own a cellphone or have any internet access, there will be no streaming or additional information provided online.
