- James Jon Pieper, age 85, of North Tonawanda, passed away Tuesday evening August 6, 2019 at Niagara Hospice House, Lockport. Jim was born on July 17, 1934 in Wheatfield. He was the youngest child of Arthur and Ruth (nee Grawe). He was a lifelong resident of North Tonawanda graduating from the North Tonawanda High School in 1953. Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of the Niagara Aerospace Museum and the Vintage Aircraft Group, American Legion, Sikora Post 1322, and St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Retired from Durez in 1980 after 31 years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Diane (nee Wescott); two sons Timothy of Melbourne, FL and David (Cathy) of Fairview Heights, IL; one daughter Lynda (Paul) Schultz of Grand Island, NY; five grandchildren, Jonathan & Jenna Pieper, and Emma, Laura, & Rebecca Schultz; one sister-in-law Larene (Hall) Pieper, one-brother-in-law, Arthur (Chun) Wescott, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim is predeceased by his parents and five sisters, Doris (Kenneth) Barnes, Betty (Clifford) Pohlman, Norma (Frank) Fill, Ruby (Franklin) Brosius, Marylin (Lloyd)(Kenneth) Brosius-Kerlin, and one brother, Robert Pieper.
Friends may call at the Fretthold Funeral Home Inc. 1241 Oliver Street at Ward Road in North Tonawanda on Saturday August 10 from 2 pm-4 pm, and 7 pm-9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Sunday at 12:30 pm at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 875 Eggert Drive in North Tonawanda, Rev. Kenneth Craig will officiate, Interment at St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or Niagara Hospice.
